The North Georgia College & State University men’s soccer team started their Peach Belt Conference schedule with a 3-2 loss Saturday, Sept. 15 against nationally ranked No. 18 Young Harris College.
But they rebounded late Thursday with a 2-1 victory over Lees-McRae in overtime on the road in Banner Elk, N.C.
The Saints’ Jamie Gleeson scored the winning goal against Lees-McRae seven minutes into over time off an assist by Amin El-Shami.
In the game against Young Harris, the opponents took an early lead, scoring two goals in the first 15 minutes of the half. The Saints then rallied back to tie the game at two goals apiece.
In the second half, Andreas Pechmann of Young Harris scored the final goal of the game in the 59th minute, solidifying the 3-2 victory.
Midfielder and Saints’ leading scorer Max Angel and forward Tyler Daly were given red cards during the match and were immediately sent off the field with no replacements.
With the victory over Lees-McRae, the Saints are 3-3 overall and 0-1 in the PeachBelt Conference.
