Summer  is almost here and at some point you will get bored from being out and about in the hot sun. Many will turn to movie theaters to cool off and relax. Here are 10 movies coming out this summer to enjoy.

The Avengers

Release date: May 4, 2012

Genre: Action/adventure/sci-fi

The world is on the edge of disaster when Nick Fury, the director of a peacekeeping agency, recruits super heroes Thor, Black Widow, Iron Man, Hawkeye, Captain America, and The Hulk to team up to fight against Loki and his army and save the world.

This movie, directed by Joss Whedon, features actors Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans.

Dark Shadows

Release date: May 11, 2012

Genre: Comedy/fantasy

This movie, based on the 1966 TV series, follows the wealthy Barnabas Collins who is turned into a vampire and locked into a coffin after breaking the heart of a witch in 1752. In 1972 he is accidentally freed and returns to his home where his dysfunctional descendants live.

This movie is directed by Tim Burton and features Johnny Depp as Barnabas, Michelle Pfeifer as one of Barnabas’ descendants, and Eva Green as the witch who curses Barnabas.

Snow White and the Huntsman

Release date: June 1, 2012

Genre: Action/adventure/drama/fantasy

In this retelling of the Snow White fairy tale, the evil queen hunts down Snow White for her beauty. The huntsman is sent after her but takes pity on her and, in a twist of the fairy tale, begins to teach her in the art of war to fight against the evil queen.

This movie features Kristen Stewart as Snow White, Chris Hemsworth as the Huntsman, and Charlize Theron as the evil queen.

Prometheus

Release date: June 8, 2012

Genre: Action/horror/sci-fi

A group of scientists go on a voyage on the spaceship “Prometheus” to investigate aliens and end up fighting to save the human race.

This movie features actors Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, and Guy Pearce.

That’s My Boy

Release date: June 15, 2012

Genre: Comedy

Donny has a son, Todd, when he is a teenager and raises him until Todd is 18. After years of not speaking, Todd marries and his  father unexpectedly shows back up before the wedding wanting to reconnect.

This movie features Adam Sandler as Donny and Andy Samberg as his son Todd.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

Genre: Fantasy/horror/thriller

Based on the novel Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, this movie is about President Abraham Lincoln finding out that vampires are planning to take over the United States and so makes it his mission to get rid of them.

Set in Scotland, Princess Merida, also an archer, wants to make her own way in life. She ignores a custom which causes chaos on the kingdom and she sets out to make things right.

This movie features actors Emma Thompson, Kelly Macdonald, and Kevin McKidd.

The Amazing Spider-Man

Release date: July 3, 2012

Genre: Action/adventure/fantasy/thriller

Peter Parker finds a briefcase of his dad’s which leads him to trying to find out about his parents disappearance. This leads him to Dr. Curt Conners who was his father’s former partner and who also is The Lizard. His quest sets up choices he makes that change his life and mold him into a hero.

This movies features actors Andrew Garfield as Spiderman, Rhys Ifans as Dr. Curt Conners, and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Peter’s high school crush.

The Dark Knight Rises

Genre: Action/crime/drama/thriller

The sequel to The Dark Knight shows Batman still fighting crime although his reputation is tarnished. He meets Catwoman while fighting against Bane who is a terrorist.

This movie features actors Christian Bale as Batman and Anne Hathaway as Catwoman.

Step Up: Revolution

Release date: July 27, 2012

Genre: Drama/music/romance

Emily goes to Miami to become a dancer and falls in love with Sean who is the leader of a dance crew. His neighborhood is in danger of the developmental plans of Emily’s dad and so Emily and Sean use their dance to protest to fight for their cause.

This movie features actors Kathryn McCormick, Ryan Guzman, and Adam G. Sevani returning as Moose.
